Selling furniture in Poland: the market, the rules and the trade fairs

Poland is one of the world's largest furniture exporters: in 2025 it exported 16.6 billion euros of furniture, bedding and lighting and imported 5.1 billion, mostly from China and Germany. Türkiye is a small but growing supplier, 14th with 1.4% of Polish imports, with seats as its largest line. Wooden furniture comes under the EU Deforestation Regulation from 30 December 2026. The main trade fair is Meble Polska in Poznań in February, followed by Warsaw Home & Contract near Warsaw in October.

The Polish furniture market in figures

Furniture is one of Poland's leading industries. Sold production of furniture rose 1.6% at constant prices in 2025 and made up 2.9% of the country's industrial output (GUS). The Turkish Ministry of Trade ranks Poland third in world furniture exports in 2025, with 7.1%, after China and Vietnam (Ministry of Trade). Exports make up nearly two-thirds of Polish furniture makers' turnover, and upholstered furniture is their main export specialisation (PAIH).

By our count from Eurostat data, Poland was the largest EU exporter of seats and of mattresses and bedding in 2025, and second after Germany for chapter 94 as a whole (Eurostat):

Product (HS heading)Polish exports, 2025 (million euros)Polish imports, 2025 (million euros)
Seats (9401)6,5032,038
Other furniture (9403)6,7461,608
Mattresses and bedding (9404)1,252314
All of chapter 94, with lighting and prefabricated buildings16,5795,150

China supplied 1,802 million euros of Poland's 2025 furniture imports and Germany 950 million, ahead of Italy, Ukraine and France. China alone had 28% of Polish imports of seats and 33% of other furniture (Eurostat); for goods arriving from another EU country, Eurostat records the country they were shipped from (Eurostat). Housing completions also rose: Poland completed 208,800 new dwellings in 2025, 4.3% more than in 2024 (GUS). Polish shoppers still prefer to see furniture in a shop before buying, so online sales of furniture are low (Ministry of Trade).

Where Turkish furniture stands in Poland

In Turkish statistics, Türkiye's furniture exports to Poland reached 62 million US dollars in 2025, up from 48 million in 2024, out of total furniture exports of about 4.6 billion US dollars; Poland was the 18th destination. Trade runs both ways: Türkiye bought 91 million US dollars of furniture from Poland in 2025, which made Poland its fourth-largest furniture supplier (Ministry of Trade).

In Polish import records, Türkiye has climbed from 18th to 14th place among furniture suppliers since 2022 (Eurostat):

Product (HS code)Türkiye's share of Polish imports, 2025Türkiye's rank among suppliers
Mattresses and bedding (9404)2.3%11th
Seats (9401)2.1%11th
Medical and barber furniture (9402)1.8%10th
Lamps and lighting (9405)0.7%14th
Other furniture (9403)0.7%17th
All of chapter 941.4%14th

Polish imports of Turkish furniture grew 20% in 2025, to 69.7 million euros, led by seats at 42.0 million euros (Eurostat). The Turkish Ministry of Trade notes that EU furniture demand is concentrated in Germany, France, the Netherlands, Spain and Poland, and that Turkish suppliers compete on cost, short delivery times and proximity (Ministry of Trade).

Turkish export figures (in US dollars) and Polish import figures (in euros, by country of origin for goods from outside the EU) are separate series and do not match exactly.

Rules for selling furniture in Poland

  • Customs: furniture is an industrial good, so it moves from Türkiye to Poland under the EU–Türkiye customs union without customs duty (European Commission).
  • No CE mark, but a general safety duty: ordinary furniture has no common EU technical act and needs no CE mark; where the EU has no common rule, member states regulate (Ministry of Trade). Consumer furniture falls under the General Product Safety Regulation: the manufacturer carries out a risk analysis and keeps technical documentation, and an economic operator established in the EU must be responsible for the product (Regulation 2023/988).
  • Deforestation Regulation from 30 December 2026: wooden furniture, wooden seats and wood products such as panels and plywood may be placed on the EU market only if they are deforestation-free, legally produced and covered by a due diligence statement (Regulation 2023/1115). The rules apply from 30 December 2026. Micro and small companies established by the end of 2024 have until 30 June 2027 only for products that the old EU Timber Regulation did not cover, such as wooden seats; for wooden furniture, panels and plywood their date is also 30 December 2026 (European Commission, Regulation (EU) 2025/2650). Since September 2026 the list covers specific wooden seats; mattresses and metal or plastic furniture are not covered (Delegated Regulation 2026/2102). Türkiye is classed as a low-risk country (Implementing Regulation 2025/1093). The company that first places the product on the EU market, usually the importer, submits the statement, so Polish buyers will ask their suppliers for information on the origin of the wood.
  • Formaldehyde: since 6 August 2026, furniture and wood-based articles placed on the EU market may not release more than 0.062 mg of formaldehyde per cubic metre of air in the standard test (Regulation 2023/1464).
  • What is coming: the Commission lists furniture among the priority products for ecodesign rules, with adoption planned for 2028, and mattresses for 2029. No binding requirement exists yet (European Commission).
