Selling textiles and clothing in Poland: the market, the rules and the trade fairs
Poland imported 16.8 billion euros of clothing in 2025, and retail sales of textiles, clothing and footwear grew 9.7% in real terms. Türkiye is Poland's ninth-largest apparel supplier but ranks higher in fabrics: third in knitted fabrics and cotton. Clothing sold in Poland needs a fibre-composition label in Polish. The main textile fairs are held in and around Łódź, a region with a long tradition of textile and clothing manufacturing: Fast Textile, Trends Expo and Fashion We Are.

The Polish textile and clothing market in figures
Retail sales of textiles, clothing and footwear grew 9.7% in 2025 at constant prices, against 4.3% for retail as a whole; the group made up 6.0% of retail sales (GUS). Online sales are important: in December 2025 they made up 25.1% of this group's sales, against 10.1% for all retail. Households spent 3.6% of their budgets on clothing and footwear (GUS).
Polish clothing production fell 3.2% in 2025, according to a preliminary estimate (GUS), while imports grew (Eurostat):
| Product group (HS chapter) | Polish imports in 2025 (million euros) | Change on 2024 |
|---|---|---|
| Woven apparel (62) | 8,465 | +10% |
| Knitted apparel (61) | 8,363 | +14% |
| Made-up textiles, including home textiles (63) | 1,347 | +3% |
| All textiles and clothing (50–63) | 22,014 | +9% |
Poland is also a large apparel exporter: it was the world's ninth-largest apparel exporter and ninth-largest importer in 2024 (İHKİB). Germany, China, Spain and Bangladesh are its largest apparel suppliers; for goods arriving from other EU countries, Polish statistics record the country they were shipped from, not where they were made (İHKİB, Eurostat). The Łódź region has a long tradition of clothing and textile manufacturing and remains a leading producer (PAIH).
Where Turkish textiles stand in Poland
In Turkish statistics, Türkiye exported 327 million US dollars of knitted apparel and 209 million US dollars of woven apparel to Poland in 2025. Women's suits and dresses were the largest single clothing item, at 115 million US dollars, down 18.4% (Ministry of Trade). For the Istanbul apparel exporters' association, Poland is Türkiye's ninth-largest apparel market; Türkiye's apparel exports there fell 20.1% in 2025, to 0.6 billion US dollars (İHKİB).
In Polish import records, Turkish suppliers rank higher in fabrics, yarn, carpets and curtains than in clothing as a whole (Eurostat):
| Product (HS code) | Türkiye's share of Polish imports, 2025 | Türkiye's rank among suppliers |
|---|---|---|
| Cotton yarn and fabrics (52) | 14.7% | 3rd |
| Knitted fabrics (60) | 11.2% | 3rd |

| Man-made filament yarn and fabrics (54) | 8.8% | 4th |
| Curtains and blinds (6303) | 4.2% | 4th |
| Women's knitted suits and dresses (6104) | 5.6% | 5th |
| Knitted apparel (61) | 3.3% | 8th |
| Made-up textiles (63) | 2.0% | 8th |
| Woven apparel (62) | 2.3% | 10th |
In 2025, Polish imports of Turkish woven apparel fell 24.5%, while knitted pullovers grew 10.1%, made-up textiles 20.0% and curtains and blinds 62.2%, to 3.9 million euros (Eurostat). The largest Turkish clothing items in Poland are women's cotton trousers, cotton T-shirts and synthetic knitted pullovers (İHKİB). In its 2022 sector presentation, the Turkish Trade Counsellor in Warsaw noted that Warsaw and Łódź stand out in home textiles, but that demand is spread across the country, and that buyers order both through shops and wholesalers and through online platforms (Warsaw counsellor).
Rules for selling textiles in Poland
- Customs: textiles and clothing are industrial goods, so they move between Türkiye and Poland under the EU–Türkiye customs union, without customs duty, with an A.TR certificate (European Commission).
- Fibre labels in Polish: under Regulation (EU) No 1007/2011, the fibre composition must be shown with the EU's standard fibre names, in Polish, and must be visible to the buyer before purchase, also online (Regulation 1007/2011). In Poland the Trade Inspection checks these labels; in a round published in 2019, on 2018 data, it found faults in 38.5% of imported products, and the most common labelling fault was fibre names that did not follow the regulation (UOKiK).
- Chemicals: EU REACH rules ban azo dyes that release listed amines above 30 mg per kg in textiles that may come into direct and prolonged contact with the skin. A restriction on PFHxA, a PFAS chemical, has applied to clothing for the general public since 10 October 2026 and will cover other consumer textiles from 10 October 2027 (REACH, Annex XVII).
- A responsible person in the EU: consumer products, clothing included, need an economic operator established in the EU, whose name and contact details appear on the product, its packaging or an accompanying document (Regulation 2023/988).
- What is coming: EU countries must set up extended producer responsibility schemes for textiles and footwear by 17 April 2028, under which producers pay for collection and waste management; a country may require a producer from outside the EU to appoint an authorised representative (Directive 2025/1892). Large companies may no longer destroy unsold clothing and footwear since 19 July 2026 (European Commission), and the Commission plans to adopt ecodesign rules for textiles, with a digital product passport, in the last quarter of 2027 (European Commission).
