Selling machinery in Poland: the market, the rules and the trade fairs
Poland is a large machinery market and a strong producer: in 2025 it imported 48.0 billion euros of machinery and exported slightly more, with Germany and China as its largest suppliers. Türkiye holds 1.5% overall but ranks among the top five in transformers, heating boilers, textile machinery, crushing and mixing machinery and metal-forming machine tools. The new EU Machinery Regulation applies from 20 January 2027, and the main fairs are ITM Industry Europe in Poznań, and the Industrial Spring and PLASTPOL in Kielce.

The Polish machinery market in figures
Poland imported 48.0 billion euros of machinery and mechanical appliances (HS chapter 84) in 2025, 9.2% more than in 2024, and 44.3 billion euros of electrical machinery and equipment (chapter 85), up 4.6%. It exported 50.1 billion euros of chapter 84 machinery, so Polish industry both buys and builds machines (Eurostat). Manufacturing produced 16.9% of Poland's gross value added in 2025 (Eurostat), and the Turkish Ministry of Trade ranks Poland sixth in the EU for manufacturing (Ministry of Trade).
Industry as a whole sold 3.0% more in 2025 than in 2024 (GUS), and investment grew 4.9% in real terms (GUS). Machinery makers did less well: sold production of machinery and equipment fell 1.2% at constant prices, and electrical equipment fell 10.4% (GUS). Polish strengths include metalworking and agricultural machinery, electrical equipment and household appliances; Polish factories make about 40% of the large household appliances produced in the EU (PAIH, PAIH).
| Largest suppliers of machinery (HS 84) to Poland, 2025 | Imports (million euros) | Share |
|---|---|---|
| Germany | 12,646 | 26.4% |
| China | 7,374 | 15.4% |
| United States | 3,810 | 7.9% |
| Netherlands | 2,655 | 5.5% |
| Italy | 2,462 | 5.1% |
| Türkiye (15th) | 705 | 1.5% |
For goods arriving from another EU country, Eurostat records the country they were shipped from, so the German and Dutch figures include machines made elsewhere (Eurostat). The Turkish Ministry of Trade names the areas where it sees opportunities for Turkish suppliers: industrial automation, sensors and instruments, electric motors, relays and control equipment, material handling, industrial robots, metal-cutting and forming machine tools, tools and dies, welding equipment, and machinery for plastics and rubber (Ministry of Trade).
Where Turkish machinery stands in Poland
In Turkish statistics, Türkiye exported 639 million US dollars of machinery (HS 84) and 634 million US dollars of electrical machinery (HS 85) to Poland in 2025; together they are the largest product block after motor vehicles. Transformers and converters grew 28.6% to 167 million US dollars, insulated cable 29.1% to 141 million and tractors 31.6% to 99 million (Ministry of Trade); in Polish import records, almost all of these tractors are road tractors for semi-trailers (Eurostat).
Polish import records show the product lines where Turkish suppliers are among Poland's leaders (Eurostat):
| Product (HS code) | Türkiye's share of Polish imports, 2025 | Türkiye's rank among suppliers |
|---|---|---|
| Textile washing, dyeing and finishing machinery (8451) | 16.5% | 2nd |
| Central-heating boilers (8403) | 15.2% | 3rd |
| Sorting, crushing and mixing machinery (8474) | 8.8% | 3rd |
| Metal-forming machine tools (8462) | 10.4% | 4th |
| Transformers and converters (8504) | 6.6% | 4th |
| Refrigerators and heat pumps (8418) | 5.5% | 5th |
| Washing machines (8450) | 5.6% | 5th |
| Packing, filling and dishwashing machinery (8422) | 5.3% | 5th |
| Road tractors for semi-trailers (870121) | 4.4% | 5th |
| Insulated wire and cable (8544) | 4.4% | 6th |
Polish imports of Turkish chapter 84 machinery grew 4.7% in 2025 and of chapter 85 electrical equipment 19.8%. Road tractors for semi-trailers have fallen back since 2023: Türkiye was Poland's third-largest supplier in 2023, with 265 million euros, and fifth in 2025, with 76 million. Earth-moving machinery, forklifts and cranes are weak spots, each with less than 1% of Polish imports (Eurostat).
Turkish export figures (in US dollars) and Polish import figures (in euros, by country of origin for goods from outside the EU) are separate series and do not match exactly. We name the series each time.
Rules for selling machinery in Poland
Machinery is an industrial good, so it moves from Türkiye to Poland under the EU–Türkiye customs union without customs duty (European Commission). What it must meet are the EU's product rules:
- A new Machinery Regulation from 20 January 2027: Regulation (EU) 2023/1230 replaces the Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC on that date. Machinery placed on the market before then must meet the Directive, and EC type-examination certificates issued under the Directive stay valid until they expire (Regulation 2023/1230, European Commission).
- The manufacturer's duties: meet the essential health and safety requirements, draw up the technical documentation, carry out the conformity assessment, issue the EU declaration of conformity, affix the CE mark, and keep the documentation for at least 10 years. Higher-risk machinery listed in Annex I, Part A of the Regulation needs a notified body (Regulation 2023/1230).
- What is new: instructions may be supplied in digital form, but a paper copy must be given free on request, and safety information for non-professional users stays on paper. The Regulation also covers safety functions that use artificial intelligence and the protection of safety control systems against cyber attacks (Regulation 2023/1230, European Commission).
- Electrical equipment: for machinery, the Regulation itself covers electrical risks and applies the safety objectives of the Low Voltage Directive. Electrical products that the Regulation leaves out, such as household appliances, electric motors and low-voltage switchgear, fall under the Low Voltage Directive when rated between 50 and 1,000 V AC or 75 and 1,500 V DC (Regulation 2023/1230, Directive 2014/35/EU). Electromagnetic compatibility is covered by its own directive (Directive 2014/30/EU).
- Importer and representative: a manufacturer outside the EU may appoint an authorised representative in the EU. The importer must check that the conformity assessment was done, that the CE mark and documentation are in place, and that instructions come with the machine (Regulation 2023/1230). If neither the manufacturer nor a representative is in the EU, the importer carries the CE responsibility (Ministry of Trade).
